Subject:    Mailing #104: BIML servers: Update for your information


Dear Colleagues,

It has been some time since the BIML contacted you to advise you of recent web site updates. 
Over the last few weeks we have been overhauling our internal and external servers, notably the 
WebServer on which www.oiml.org is hosted (located the other side of Paris). 

This now gives us much more server space and a broader range of functions, which has enabled us to 
start work on a variety of projects – notably the issue of discussion forums. We will report back on 
this subject once the beta testing phase has been successfully terminated.  For the time being, we are 
designing and setting parameters to make this facility as user-friendly as possible.

The server transfer operation has proved to be significantly more time-consuming and complex than initially 
planned, however from the user’s point of view it has been virtually transparent with no interruption of 
service. Hopefully, you will have noticed a more rapid access time for oiml.org since the beginning of the year.

The remaining module still to be installed on the new external server is the mailer program we use to 
send you these mailings. The new mailer program will again provide us with more versatility, and until 
it is installed we are reverting to using a regular e-mail client – again transparent for you as recipients.
