Subject:    Mailing #105: MAA: Participation in the R 49 DoMC


Dear Colleagues,


As you are aware, on 2 November 2005 the Mutual Acceptance Arrangement (MAA) was expanded to cover
OIML R 49 Water meters… (BIML Circular 05/595). Whilst R 49 is being revised to accommodate hot water meters,
it has nevertheless been decided to proceed in two stages: firstly cold water meters and at a later stage,
hot water meters.

As a reminder, Circular 05/595
(http://www.oiml.org/members/circ_2005.html) stated:

“Candidacies for participation in this new Declaration of Mutual Confidence (DoMC) are now open and OIML
Issuing Authorities intending to participate and to issue Certificates and Test Reports under this DoMC and
become Issuing Participants, are requested to send their application to the BIML at the latest by March 31,
2006 with a copy to their CIML Member.......... Other participants from OIML Member States who wish to participate,
but who will not be issuing Certificates and Test Reports under these DoMCs, are kindly requested to make their intentions
known to the Bureau by the same deadline, so that they can be registered as Utilizing Participants and be represented in the
provisional Committee on Participation Review (CPR) which will be established at the outset of the process.”

We would therefore like to take this opportunity to remind CIML Members, OIML Corresponding Members and OIML
Issuing Authorities that this deadline is now fast approaching but that to date, no applications have been received
at all by the BIML (neither as Issuing Participants nor Utilizing Participants).

To this end, we would be grateful if those countries interested in participating for R 49 would please contact us as soon
as possible.
