Dear Colleagues,

Last week, I posted information on the OIML Developing Countries web pages entitled “Why check
prepackages”. Details have now been added to this initial article, including the first results of
checking prepackages carried out in Peru and Jordan:

Studying these results leads one to conclude that these kinds of checks are of major importance;
perhaps the most striking example is that instead of a declared 2.7 L of olive oil, the actual
content was only 1.8 L.

Fortunately, not all products have shown such drastic shortages and many are in fact in
compliance with OIML R 87.

What about experience in your country?

If you have not yet started performing such checks the above-mentioned examples show the
necessity for such activities. No equipment, no regulations in force? Have a look at my proposal
in the folder “Check of Prepackages” to read what you can do to rectify the situation.

You can also present your results on the OIML Developing Countries web pages – please do not
hesitate to become involved and share your knowledge and experience; both the BIML and myself are
available to help you if required.
